Coexistence of different civilizations on this planet for millions of generations

Proliferation, competition and selection seem strong forces in nature that make life resilient. Could similar forces help lead to resilient civilizations?

Any single civilization would be susceptible to threats. When it collapsed, there would be no back-up. If easily accessible resources are not available, advancing civilization to a state where it no longer consumes resources may be difficult. Competing or distributed civilization would therefore be desirable.

With progress providing ever more powerful means of destruction, competition of civilizations can hardly be expressed in violent conflicts. These would endanger life, not just civilization.

Progress would facilitate movement and exchange between civilizations, so civilizations would be expected to gravitate towards the one that seems most attractive.

If consuming resources made civilization more attractive, they would be short phenomena.

The answer is pending. These considerations merely place constraints on coexisting civilizations.
